CONTACT LENSES

advanced eye technology

What are contact lenses?

Contact lenses are a very good option for correcting vision defects and are in fact a type of treatment for certain eye disorders. Suitable for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia (eye fatigue), they are a solution to seeing well and can be adapted to each user’s vision needs and lifestyle.

Larger field of vision

The frame on glasses can limit our field of vision, which can be highly significant in high prescriptions.

Professional activities

Depending on our profession, using contact lenses can reduce risks and improve our performance.

Sports

Glasses can be uncomfortable and even dangerous if we do certain contact sports, such as football or basketball.

Contact lens treatment uses

Nowadays, contact lenses are not just for aesthetic purposes or to correct refractive errors. They are a very useful tool for treating certain eye disorders.

Anisometropia Large difference in prescription between the two eyes as differences of over 3 dioptres cannot be tolerated in correction with glasses.

Corneal deformation disorders Contact lenses are often the only valid option for vision correction with conditions such as irregular astigmatism or keratoconus.

Therapeutic lenses These are recommended, for example, in recurrent corneal ulcers or traumatic ulcers after extracting foreign bodies from the cornea and in corneal degeneration.

Myopia management It is possible to slow or stop myopia in children with the right treatment, always under the supervision of an ophthalmologist.

PERSONALISED ADAPTATION

The characteristics of each user’s eye and their habits will determine the type of contact lenses they should use and, consequently, the maintenance to follow. The following factors must be taken into account:

  • Daily usage hours.
  • Weekly usage frequency.
  • Type and amount of tear production.
  • Eye measurements (cornea, curvature, pupil diameter, etc.).
  • Required oxygen supply.

The personalized adaptation process we carry out at Clínica Rahhal allows us to provide the best possible vision and keep the eyes healthy.

FAQs

Select one of the following frequently-asked questions from our patients to show the answer. If you cannot find the answer to your question, please contact us using the form below.

Are all contact lenses the same?

Definitely not. There are many different types of contact lenses depending on the material that they are made of, their size or their purpose. This is the reason why many people seem not to “tolerate” contact lenses, when the reality is that they have not tried the right lens.

How do I know which is the right lens for me?

An anatomical and physiological examination of each patient’s eye surface is essential when it comes to recommending the most suitable contact lens in each individual case. For example, certain materials will be more or less suitable depending on the type of tears. As such, a thorough eye examination to assess the shape of the cornea and the quality of the tears, among other things, is essential.

Do I need supervision by an ophthalmologist if I use contact lenses?

Of course. First of all, it is important that it is an ophthalmologist that prescribes the contact lenses so as to rule out any eye disorder in its early stages that may go unnoticed. Also, after years of use, contact lenses can cause alterations to the surface of the eye, which is why proper supervision is needed to prevent long-term consequences such as dry eyes, corneal infections or eyelid conjunctivitis.

Do all contact lenses have the same purpose?

No. Even though they are most commonly used for refractive purposes (i.e., as a replacement for glasses), contact lenses have many uses, such as therapeutic purposes to act as a bandage for the surface of the eye.
