Purpose of paediatric ophthalmology
The early years are fundamental to vision development as this is constantly developing throughout this season. Any deficiency or anomaly that goes undiagnosed in these early years can leave vision defects that can later become permanent. As such, ophthalmology for children has an important role to play in prevention. The first paediatric ophthalmology check-up should be carried out at age three and, under normal circumstances, should be repeated annually.
